MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Aug. 14, 2013) — For the third consecutive year, Milligan College has been named a College of Distinction by a national college guide that recognizes institutions with great teaching and successful outcomes.
Milligan will again be featured on the guide’s new website, CollegesofDistinction.com, and will be included in the 2013-2014 Colleges of Distinction eGuidebook.
Colleges of Distinction honors colleges and universities that demonstrate excellence in four distinctions of educational quality including student engagement, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes. The schools vary in size from large universities to small liberal arts colleges.
The goal of Colleges of Distinction is to provide students, counselors and parents with information about schools that excel in the four educational distinctions. The guide focuses on schools that take a holistic approach to admissions decisions, consistently excel in providing undergraduate education and have a truly national reputation.
“Colleges of Distinction looks at traits that are closely related to Milligan’s mission,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “Our commitment to scholarship, community and faith prepares our students to be successful in the classroom and in lives of service. We are honored that these outcomes are highlighted in Colleges of Distinction for the third year.”
Milligan also is included in the Christian Colleges of Distinction and Tennessee Colleges of Distinction subcategories.
Colleges and universities are nominated for participation in Colleges of Distinction by high school college counselors, college administration and the Colleges of Distinction selection team.
The selection team interviews senior administration, faculty, alumni and current students at each nominated college. Feedback is gathered from administrators at other colleges and high school counselors across the country. The team visits each of the listed colleges to get a feel for student engagement and quality of teaching. The selection team also uses a range of quantitative data such as graduation rates, classroom size and other information related to the four distinctions.
Students and their parents can learn more about what Milligan offers in each of the four distinctions in the Colleges of Distinction online guide (www.collegesofdistinction.com).
“Colleges of Distinction is a useful tool for prospective students,” said Dr. Lee Fierbaugh, vice president for enrollment management and marketing at Milligan. “Students can certainly get a great picture of our mission and programs from the guide, but the best way to experience the Milligan community is to visit. When prospective students are on campus, they can talk to our faculty, interact with students and see firsthand what makes Milligan such a special place.”
